Los Cabos Airport Arrival Guide: SJD Step by Step
Arriving at Los Cabos International Airport (SJD)
Arriving at Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) follows the same four steps in both terminals: immigration, baggage claim, customs, and the walk outside to ground transportation. International flights arrive at Terminal 2 and domestic flights at Terminal 1. After customs you pass a corridor of timeshare desks before the exit, and your private shuttle is not there: the Cabo Black Shuttle airport representative waits outside the building at Umbrellas 3 & 4 with a CABO BLACK sign, about a four-minute walk from baggage claim.
Los Cabos Airport Arrival Steps: Immigration, Bags and Customs
When you leave the aircraft, follow the signs to immigration and have your passport ready. After immigration, collect your checked bags at baggage claim and continue to customs. The two terminals at SJD are not next to each other, so confirm which terminal your flight uses; it is printed on your boarding pass, and the terminal guide on this site lists the airlines at each one.
You do not need to call anyone when you land. Every reservation includes flight tracking with the airline and flight number on your voucher, so the airport representative knows when your flight is on the ground, whether it is early, on time or delayed.
The Timeshare Corridor After Customs at SJD Airport
After customs, and before the exit doors, you walk through a corridor of desks staffed by people who offer transportation, tours and information. They are timeshare and sales desks, and they look like transportation booths. Your pre-booked shuttle is not inside the building, so keep walking to the exit.
If someone asks who your transportation is with, you do not need to stop or show your voucher. Your driver and the airport representative are outside, at the meeting point printed on your confirmation.
Where Your Los Cabos Airport Shuttle Driver Meets You: Umbrellas 3 & 4
Exit the terminal building and look for Umbrellas 3 & 4 in the meet-and-greet area. The Cabo Black Shuttle airport representative stands there holding a CABO BLACK sign and introduces you to your assigned driver. The meeting point is the same after Terminal 1 and after Terminal 2, and the walk from baggage claim is about four minutes.
From there your driver loads the luggage and drives directly to your hotel or address. The vehicle is private to your party, so there are no other passengers and no stops at other hotels. If you added a shopping stop to your reservation, it happens on the way.
Los Cabos Airport Transfer Times and Payment on Arrival
Typical drive times from SJD are about 20 minutes to San Jose del Cabo, 35 minutes to the Tourist Corridor, 50 minutes to Cabo San Lucas and the Pacific Side, 90 minutes to Todos Santos and 2 hours 30 minutes to La Paz. One-way fares in the Chevrolet Suburban start at $65, $75, $85, $95, $160 and $230 USD for those zones.
You can pay online by card in USD when you book, or pay on arrival. A 16% Mexican IVA tax applies only to card payments, and cash payments are not taxed. Your voucher, with the reservation number and the meeting point, is sent when you book.
